On Sunday evening matthijs and I went to the cinema. We saw the movie Beowulf. In German cinema’s they all translate the movies in German. I already saw some American movies translated to German on the television. It was not really nice to hear a different James Bond voice saying “geschaken nicht geruurd” (“shaken not stirred”). But we both wanted to go to this movie.
It started at 20.10 we made sure to be on time so we could buy some popcorn. There was the first difference. There was no choice in the flavour of the popcorn, so we speculated on the flavour. It turned out to be sweetened popcorn. We walked on to hall 4. We had assigned seats so we looked them up. It felt a bit strange because there where hardly any people present. But we could better sit in our dedicated seat, Germans are very “punktlich”. Luckily we had good seats, in the middle of the cinema. We thought that more people would come later (they didn’t). At 20.05 the commercials started. I remember thinking that s nice so the movie starts at exactly 20.10. I couldn’t be more wrong. We had to watch commercials for over 35 minutes!!! The worst part was that it where horrible commercials. Some commercials are nice to watch but these commercials where about getting people into the cinemas. There where at least 3 commercials about how nice it was that particular products are from this regent. They would say the slogan “wir sind fon hier”. It sounds a bit strange to me. Obviously to be from this regent is better. I am not from this reagent so what am I? hmmm
But finally (we where already discussing if we weren’t in the wrong hall) the movie started. 20.45! The movie it self was great. We both like this genre. It is a computer animated movie. In the beginning you can see that the movements are not exactly right, but after 10 minutes into the movie you don’t notice this anymore. Even that the movie is in German disappeared, it was like I could already understand German language perfectly. It actually felt like I was watching an English language movie.
It was a great movie. Afterwards we went for a drink in the city centre. We had a really good weekend!

We zijn zondag naar de film Beowulf geweest. Het lastige is dat alle films in Duitsland zijn nagesynchroniseerd. Ik heb inmiddels al wat ervaring vanuit de TV opgedaan en ik moet zeggen, het is niet het zelfde als James Bond met een andere stem zegt “geschaken nicht geruurd”. Maar we wilde graag deze film in de bios zien.
De film begon om 20.10. We zorgde er voor dat we ruim op tijd waren zodat we nog popcorn konden halen. De popcorn bleek niet in verschillende smaken te zijn. Het was popcorn. We hadden al veel lol samen over wat voor soort smaak we krijgen zouden. Het bleek uiteindelijk gewoon zoet.
We hadden vaste plaatsen die we maar eens gingen opzoeken. Er was nog bijna niemand in de zaal, maar ja je weet hoe “punktlich” de Duitsers zijn. Gelukkig hadden we stoelen in het midden. We hadden het idee dat er nog wel en hoop mensen zouden komen (nee dus).
Om 20.05 begon de reclame. Ik dacht nog lekker dan begint de film lekker op tijd. Het liep een beetje anders...We hebben meer als 35 minuten naar reclame zitten kijken. En niet van die leuke reclame. Er was vooral veel reclame om naar de bios te komen (duh, er was niemand) en reclame waarin verteld werd dat het prduct “von hier ist”. Ik vond het een beetje raar want ze willen duidelijk makan dat van hier zijn beters is, maar ik ben niet van hier, wat ben ik dan?
Maar goed uiteindelijk begon de film dan toch om 20.45 (we begonnen ons al af te vragen of we wel in de jusite zaal zaten) De film zelf was erg leuk. De film is met de computer geanimeerd. Mooie gemaakt en mooie effecten. In het begin zie je wel dat het met de computer gemaakt is maar na 10 minuten verdwijnt dat. Ook zo de duitse nasynsonisering. Het was alsof we naar een engelstalige film aan het kijken was.
Na de film zijn we nog wat in de stad wezen drinken. Het was een geslaagd weekend
